During this month's challenge will be giving new makeovers to (Mostly) downtownies.

At first I thought about picking some of the most hard-to-makeover controllable sims you guys mentioned on the last discussion, but we'll vary a bit to focus on some townies this time, and what better than downtowies (*see ETA note at the end). Imo, some are kind of cool, but their style is begging for improvement ;)

So, under the cut you will find several pictures of the selected sims for you to pick as many as you want to makeover (click on the pictures for the respective link). These are all extracted with Simpe, cloned and packaged on bodyshop with their original styles. (You will need Nighlife for this, tho, I think you may be able to install them with clean installer if you don't have the EP, but not totally sure, sorry)

These are most of the D-townies, but not all. I picked those that needed a makeover the most and/or those I've seen in other games more frequently. They are mostly adults, but there're also a few teens (The townie "Tricou" teen) and a couple of elders. (no kids)

You can use any style and CC you want, but No aging up/down, No plastic surgery/alter facial features, and try not changing eyes/hair colors unless you think the sim/character may like to use contacts or dyed/custom their hair, in which case please mention it on your post.

You can share you makeovers any way you want too, but you must include at least one full body, one face close up of each, and a pic of the original style for reference (even if only the same thumbnail from here )

Any problem with the links and/or files, please let me know as soon as you can so they can be fixed/replaced promptly. Thank you!

Due date by the end of the September.

Have Fun!! :)

ETA: rosefyre kindly let me know that some of these may not be from Downtown as such. After checking the list well, now only the last two Adult male aren't from DT, but may need so help in style anywas. The rest were from DT but for some reason their clones show with the wrong outfit in my bodyshop no matter from where they are extracted, so I reuploaded them with their correct outfits (The AM aparently has a clone in DT so he showed in shorts in the first file uploaded, and you'll find with a green hoodie now, but it is the same sim. Same with the two EF. They are still the same sims). Also added and extra Elder male and replaced one of the the Adult Female that was in fact a YA for another female from DT (the AF with the black hawaian hat). I'm really sorry for all the mistakes. I think I messed up when choosing the files from the Sim surgery panel.

Also JIC: Downtownies names are randomized when a dowton is added to a hood (just like YA dormies, and others), but you're interested, there's a list in wiki with their names from the template (Thanks to skellington7d and silenzii for the links). Also the teen aren't "Tricou" by name, but they they are supposed to be Jon Smith's children (outside marriage).

I hope I get to do this one! I didn't have time to finish the two last ones either :(

Er, pretty sure a few of those sims aren't actually downtownies. The bottom right female adult is wearing a uni outfit, the bottom left male adult and the one to his right are wearing outfits that are either from FT or AL, and I'm not 100% certain on the two elder women. It's possible they're just in other outfits - I spot the second-from-the-right bottom adult male wearing an outfit that's not his normal one - but I'm 99% certain the woman, at least, is actually an LFT dormie, not a downtownie, and I think the two males may be AL social townies. Everyone else is definitely a downtownie, but those 5 I'm not so sure about.

Honestly I looked them pretty much by memory because there's no way to recognize them in any other way, so Some of them may not be downtownies.

I Can't find any kind of official list over the internet or any info in their files to recognize them as D-townies as such, except for the fact that were all included in the same "household" which made me assume they came in the same EP. (I'm pretty sure there are NO YAs in this list, so they can't be from any Uni for sure, but maybe a AL townie got mixed by mistake)

But thanks for the note. I'll put a warning about it on the entry.

Official downtownie list (though missing vamps and NPCs): http://thesims2.ea.com/exchange/story_detail.php?asset_id=92238&asset_type=story&user_id=2298091

Not sure why anyone else would show up in the same household, but still pretty sure those aren't downtownies - I've been working on a round robin legacy, and my hood is downtown, so I know them pretty well

Cool. Thanks for that. :)
I'll keep it at hand, but it's mostly them with some exceptions, so I just added a note and will look one by one later to add specific warnings for those sims that don't belong in the EP. It won't make much of a difference for the challenge itself.

Mostly downtownies works! They're all Maxis, anyway. The more I look, I think the elder women MAY be downtownies, just in different outfits, but I'm pretty sure all three adults are not.

You were right about the girl in white dress. Your comment made me doubt so I checked again and it is a YA (I can't recognize clothes by EP lol)
Thanks so much for noticing! :)

Not a problem! I was pretty sure - I used her in the generation of the round robin that involved LFT. She looked like that character to me.

The easiest way to only get actual downtownies is to extract them from the downtown template instead of a neighbourhood you've added downtown to. :) Not sure why those random sims would show up in your Downtownie family though, I'm pretty sure that's not supposed to happen.

BTW, a couple of those sims have broken face templates. The blond goth Tricou teen and the S3 male with glasses Tricou teen, and also the adult male S4 with the horrid green vest and glasses. I fixed them in my latest "clean downtown" template.

Also, apologies for never getting around to the last dare, I haven't been feeling very inspired to do much but just play/makeover lately. :( I have a little nod to it in my makeover of the Grunt house which I'll post soon, though.

Maybe I'll try my hand at this dare!

Thank you!! :) No, I guess the Grunt house doesn't get made over that often! I tried to keep it close to its original feel/look.

I enjoy the dares a lot and seeing what everyone comes up with, but I'm prone to sticking to my own projects when I play so I usually only end up doing dares if they happen to fit in with my current project. Dare 33 kind of did, but I just didn't feel up to it in the end. :(

broken face templates?? *sigh* That happens for going so out of my comfort zone here...

Do you know if that may affect the files themselves during the export/cloning/import process? (I mean, to be use for makeovers only). I checked them in bodyshop and didn't notice anything wrong, but again, I'm not familiar with them except for those tiny thumbnails pictures so I really don't know how their faces supposed to look like in game :/

Oh, I meant broken as in... they're based on the broken templates 21 and 25, which means their adult face is different to their other life stages. Try aging up those two Tricou teens or aging up/down the green vest AM in body shop and you'll see what I mean. Using them isn't dangerous or anything, they won't break anyone's game, the only problem is the visual difference in appearance on different life stages - which WILL be passed on to their children. So it's really only a problem if people intend to play and breed them after making them over. :)

I learned that the hard way about the blonde goth Tricou teen when I married him into my awesimsauce *sigh* (And that family was broken already, my founder had the other broken face template. I think I just now bred both of them out, in gen 8, I think I'm on.)

Thank you!! That's great to know. I was fearing it could be like it happens with the Jacquets whose faces change completely when cloned O_o

I should probably add another warning about it, jic, tho...

(*sigh* townies are so not my thing lol must remember to stay away from them next time rofl)

Sorry to have worried you! Nah, as far as I know, only the Jacquets and Jasmine Rai have that problem. (Which is not really "broken" as such, but it looks like EA did plastic surgery on them, so when you extract you get their genetic faces instead of the ones you see ingame!)

Yeah, aside from the Pleasantview townies and the Garden Club members, I tend to avoid townies, but I've gotten a bit of an interest in the downtownies lately, because of the Tricou teens and the fact that not all of them have straight face templates. So they're a bit more interesting than regular townies, I think.

By defualt, Downtonies names change all the time, just like YA townies. You only have the style to recognize them. I don't know about AL or OFB townies, tho. :)

AL/Social townies keep their names, as do tourists, hobby club leaders and garden club members (because they come from stealth 'hoods, not from subhoods), whereas all shopping district townies, downtownies, dormies and vacation locals get randomized names. :)

Sorry to but in, but I don't think vacation locals get randomized names. They always have the same names for me at least.

Hmm, that's entirely possible. I never use the pre-made locals (I make my own), so I just assumed they worked like in other subhoods. Thanks for the correction!

I think they get different names in each hood. I already have all the Tricous in my game as playables.

Yes, downtownies get different names in each game (same style, but names change randomly), and those teen aren't "Tricou" by name, but they are known as the "tricou teens" because they are supposed to be Jon Smith's children (outside marriage)

*adding that as note to the challenge as well, jic*

This sounds awesome! I have a soft spot for these townies.

Maxis did give them names in the Downtown template, but the subhood feature randomizes all townie names. (if you add on a subhood version of Pleasantview for instance, Goopy and Kaylynn will have mixed up names too)

You can find their template names on the wiki if anyone's interested: http://sims.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Downtown_Sims

It makes sense the files would have so kind of name to start with, but if they will change inevitably in everyone's games anyways, there's no point on try to use them for the challenge (or even in general). It may only complicate things even more, imo.

But, thanks for that info! It's still very interesting. I'll add to the post if anyone is curious (I'm so unfamiliar with Townies I didn't know any of this).

There is a list of all downtownies here:
http://sims.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Downtownies
They don't have random names, they are always the same. The names varies from language to language but they are always the same.

Maybe it depends if whatever you play a downloaded uberhood or not, but those are certainly not the same names in my game, and for what others comment here I'm not the only one with randomly generated names. In any case, I don't see how their names may interfere with a makeover challenge in this case.

But thanks for the link. Seems to be the same that skellington posted out before with the template names. I must add it to the post in case any one is interested.

No, they are not always the same. Downtownie names get randomized when you add a downtown. The names listed on the wiki are the names they have in the Downtown template, but they lose those when you add the downtown to a neighbourhood.
